The Adirondack region has long been known as a wonderful, wild vacation retreat and the inspiration for numerous artists, writers and musicians. The artists who come and take part in the Adirondack Plein Air Festival know that very well, which is what attracts them from all over the country. It's the largest wilderness east of the Mississippi, yet within an easy days drive of the major cities of the northeast. There are mountains, lakes, rivers, bogs, forests, farms, and small communities - a full variety of subject matter for artists. Ninety artists submitted applications and 50 were selected to participate. The Adirondack Plein Air Festival involves 4 1/2 days of painting and then a huge Show & Sale that could very well have 500 fresh, wet paintings that were created during the event. Spectators are encouraged to come watch the creative process as well as to enjoy the Adirondack environment themselves. Click on the "Schedule" link above to see what is going on each day of the event. Our artists have a wonderful time exploring the Adirondacks with their paintbrushes. We invite you to come see what they have produced and perhaps bring home your own piece of the Adirondacks. ![]()
